About the event

This is an adventure ride like NO other! The 2025 Dusty Butt will be better than ever...Covering over 1400km, and ridden over 3 days...This is one true iconic adventure...

After making a big change in 2024, because of safety reasons and more and more users on many of the shared trails than before, we have decided to continue to run the event over mid-weeks days, rather than over a weekend. It proved to be so much quieter on all the shared trails - far safer and much much more enjoyable for everyone!

So, the 2025 Dusty Butt dates will be held Tuesday 11th - Thursday 13th February 2025.

You will need accommodation in Fairlie for Monday 10th for the dinner, registration and briefing, and in Alexandra for 11th and 12th, and back in Fairlie on the Thursday 13th.

Proudly sponsored by Kriega -  Masters of motorcycle luggage design!

Please note as a condition of entry you must be riding with a buddy, or a group, and be responsible for each other - some areas are remote and the distances are long, and Moto Mapped does not provide an official recovery service for this adventure.

Are you ready for the ride of your life? Then get ready now....3 days, 1400km, and the most spectacular adventure riding through some of the countrys most stunning and remote areas. Once again we get to meet some fantastic like-minded people, enjoy & share some great stories, photos and video clips!

You never know what you're in for at the Dusty, every year can throw a different curve ball and there's always a few challenges, whatever the weather! Many thanks to all the riders who have joined us previously on this superb annual ride of a lifetime, we hope to see you again! What better way is there of exploring the country off the beaten track then this?! We look forward to sharing another fantastic ride with you in February 2025!

Roll on for this next iconic DB1.4K, (as the event is more commonly now known), promises again be the most spectacular adventure ride this country has ever experienced! We will be travelling through much of the same favourite locations as previous years, but many of these tracks will be approached from a different direction - and this may make some of the challenges along the way a little more technical depending on the weather!

The DB1.4K is held across some of the country's most stunning locations and it's here we've packed in 3 days of outstanding intense adventure riding. This ride is suitable for both big and small bikes that must be well maintained, fully serviced & road registered. Upon registration you will receive a checklist which will help you with your preparations.

The 2025 Kriega Dusty Butt covers approximately 1400km of epic adventure, still based from Fairlie to Alexandra & south, and back to Fairlie. This is an adventure ride like no other, and is often a week long for most who travel far for this ride, always renown for some challenges and suprises along the way, and the high that comes from a well deserved achievement at the end!

Description:

The Kriega Dusty Butt 2025 will take you on a fantastic 1400 km journey through some spectacularly scenic and remote areas, on and off road. The route has varied over the years, however the southern route has proven to be the most popular by offering riders both unbeatable riding terrain and stunning scenery, with some truly remarkable riding over stations and trail you may not have had the opportunity to explore before! All three days provide riders with a great mix of scenic sections that take in the stunning lower South Island plus some (optional) challenging sections for those looking for something a little more ambitious. Due to special land permissions, this event can only be ridden over this 3 day period! There are sections along the way which may be steep, slippery or rough, as well as stream and river crossings. These sections will require a moderate level of off-road skills, and riders need to be fit and prepared to endure between 10-15 hours of riding each day to complete the entire route. Your motorcycle needs to be well maintained and fully serviced! Optional Challenge sections offer the competent off-road rider some serious fun over challenging terrain including long sections of rough, steep or rutted tracks and mulitple stream and river crossings. These sections will challenge your bike control skills as you navigate your way over the high country and through the rivers.

 What to Expect:

Spectacular scenery! - Bring your camera......attach your helmet cam! Remote high-country environment - Much of the route is sub-alpine to alpine (up to 1700m), and regardless of still being summer, rain, wind, cold temperatures and even snow, could be expected. All riders must be prepared for high altitude severe weather conditions and carry spare warm and waterproof clothes, regardless of the forecast. 3 BIG riding days - Time in the saddle on the Dusty Butt maximises it all, with 10-15 hours (depending on stops and style), so an early start each day is advised. Riding into your final destination on Sunday night back at Fairlie you will have a great sense of acheivement, have had an awesome experience with plenty of stories to tell, hopefully not too bruised and battered and with many laughs along the way! Route Navigation - Riders MUST navigate the route using a GPS. We advise groups riding together should have at least two riders competent with using this form of navigation. These detailed GPS downloads will be made available to registraints closer to the starting date. Please become familiar with this sort of navigation prior to the event. Fuel stops - It is important to ensure your bike can cover approximately 210km on one tank of gas, or you may need to carry additional gas in a NZ standards compliant fuel container. (A finalised fuel chart will be made available to you prior to the event). Tools - It is essential that at least one rider in your group carries a comprehensive toolkit and a rider in your group can carry out basic repairs and maintenance. Punctures can be common on the challenge sections, but possible anywhere and we recommend you also carry spare tubes. Please note there is no official bike recovery service provided for this adventure ride...This ride is a true adventure covering long distances in remote areas where you must ride with your buddy or group and all be prepared to help one another.
